Flag of Armenia

Armenia's flag is a horizontal tricolour of red, blue, and orange adopted on 24 August 1990 during the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The design revives the flag of the First Republic of Armenia, which flew from 1918 to 1922 before the Soviet era.

The red band represents the Armenian Highland, the millennia-long struggle of Armenians for survival, and the nation's Christian faith. The blue stands for the desire to live peacefully under clear skies, and the orange, often described as apricot after the country's national fruit, represents the creative talent and hard-working nature of the Armenian people. The colours and their meanings were formally codified in the 2006 Law on the National Flag, and Armenia was historically the first country to adopt Christianity as its state religion.
