Flag of Bahrain

The flag of Bahrain consists of a white band on the hoist side separated from a red area by five triangles forming a serrated line. Red represents courage and valour, while white represents peace and honesty. The current design with five points was adopted on 14 February 2002.

The five white triangles symbolise the five pillars of Islam. The serrated edge has been simplified over time -- originally with 28 points, it was reduced to eight in 1972 and to five in 2002. The flag is sometimes confused with Qatar's, but Qatar's flag is maroon rather than red, has nine points, and uses a greater length-to-width ratio.
