Flag of Colombia
Colombia's tricolour derives from Francisco de Miranda's flag created in 1801 for Venezuelan independence, officially adopted by Gran Colombia in 1819. The current vertical arrangement of yellow, blue, and red was formally established on 26 November 1861. The flag's proportions — 2:1:1 for yellow to blue to red — distinguish it from other flags sharing similar colours.
The yellow stripe represents wealth and sovereignty, the blue symbolizes the two ocean coastlines and loyalty, and the red commemorates blood shed in independence battles. Colombia shares flag colour origins with Ecuador and Venezuela, all stemming from the historical Gran Colombia federation, creating a symbolic link between these three nations.
