Flag of Ghana

Ghana's flag was designed by Theodosia Okoh and officially adopted on 6 March 1957, marking independence from British colonial rule. Red represents the blood shed by those who fought for independence, gold symbolizes the nation's mineral wealth, and green represents Ghana's forests and natural resources.

The black star, adopted from Marcus Garvey's Black Star Line, symbolizes African emancipation and unity against colonialism. The design incorporates Pan-African colours, establishing Ghana as a symbol of African independence. After a brief change in 1964, the original flag was reinstated in 1966.
