Flag of Iran

Iran's flag was adopted in 1980 following the Islamic Revolution of 1979, replacing the Lion and Sun emblem with new national symbols. Green represents faith, white symbolizes peace, and red represents courage — colours that have defined Iranian flags for centuries.

The white band contains a stylized emblem of Allah, while the phrase "Allahu Akbar" (God is Great) is repeated 22 times along the colour borders — honouring the 22nd day of Bahram when the revolution triumphed. The text is shaped to resemble a tulip, an ancient Iranian symbol representing fallen soldiers, reflecting the tradition that red tulips grow from the graves of patriots.
