Flag of Iraq

Iraq's flag is a horizontal tricolour of red, white, and black, charged with the takbir ("Allahu akbar") in green Kufic script centred on the white stripe. The current design was adopted on 22 January 2008, replacing the earlier version that featured three green stars. The colours are Pan-Arab colours representing the Arab Revolt against Ottoman rule.

Red represents sacrifice and courage, white represents peace and generosity, black represents Arab heritage, and the green script represents Islam. The flag has been modified several times in recent decades, including changes after 2003 to remove elements associated with the former regime.
