Flag of Mexico

Mexico's flag features three vertical stripes of green, white, and red with a central coat of arms showing an eagle perched on a cactus, holding a serpent. The coat of arms depicts the founding myth of Tenochtitlan (Mexico City), where the Aztecs witnessed this divine sign in 1325.

Colour symbolism has evolved over time. Green originally represented independence, white the Catholic religion, and red union — the "Three Guarantees" of the 1821 independence plan. Modern interpretations suggest green represents hope, white symbolizes purity, and red commemorates the blood of national heroes. The current version was adopted in 1968.
