Flag of Norway

Norway's flag features red with a navy blue Nordic cross bordered in white. The design was proposed in 1821 by parliament member Fredrik Meltzer — though an intriguing detail reveals that his 10-year-old son actually designed it. The flag was adopted for civilian use and officially approved in 1899 after Norway's separation from Sweden.

The cross represents Christian heritage and ties to other Nordic nations. The blue colour acknowledged the Swedish union, while red emphasized the colours of freedom. The off-centre cross is characteristic of Nordic cross designs, distinguishing Scandinavian flags from other European nations.
