Flag of Paraguay

The flag of Paraguay is a horizontal tricolour of red, white, and blue, famous for being the only national flag in the world with distinct emblems on each side. The obverse displays the national coat of arms, a gold star encircled by a palm and an olive branch beneath the inscription Republica del Paraguay. The reverse carries the seal of the Treasury, a lion guarding a staff topped with a Phrygian cap and the motto Paz y Justicia.

The tricolour was formally adopted on 25 November 1842 under Carlos Antonio Lopez, drawing on colours flown during the 1811 independence movement. Red stands for patriotism and courage, white for unity and peace, and blue for liberty and justice.
