Flag of Poland

Poland's flag consists of two horizontal stripes of white above red, officially adopted on 1 August 1919. These colours derive from the tinctures of the White Eagle of Poland and the red shield on which it was displayed.

White symbolizes peace and integrity while red represents bravery and the sacrifice made for Polish independence. These colours were first publicly used as national symbols on 3 May 1792 during celebrations of the Polish Constitution. The simple bicolour design replaced earlier proposals featuring the White Eagle, making it distinctive and easily recognizable.
