Flag of Portugal

Portugal's flag features a vertical division of green and red, with the national coat of arms at the centre line. The flag was redesigned in 1910 following the revolution that established the Republic. Red symbolizes courage and bloodshed for the nation, while green represents hope and the future.

The coat of arms displays five blue shields in a Greek cross pattern containing white bezants representing the five wounds of Christ. The armillary sphere represents the Age of Discoveries and maritime expansion that defined Portugal's golden era. Seven yellow castles symbolize fortresses conquered during territorial expansion.
