Flag of Tajikistan

Tajikistan's flag was adopted on 24 November 1992 after independence from the Soviet Union. It consists of three horizontal bands of red, white, and green, with the white band in the centre twice the width of the others, and a golden emblem of a crown beneath an arc of seven five-pointed stars.

Red stands for the sun, victory, and national unity; white for purity, cotton, and the snow of the high Pamir peaks; and green for the fertile valleys and the Islamic faith of the majority. The crown (toj in Tajik) is a play on the country's name, literally "land of the crown," while the seven stars draw on a Tajik folk tradition in which seven is a sacred number symbolising perfection, completeness, and happiness.
