The Torres Strait Islander flag features green borders at the top and bottom, a central blue stripe, a thin black border separating them, and a white dhari (traditional headdress) over a five-pointed star at the centre. Designed by the late Bernard Namok in 1992 as an entry in a flag design competition, it became an official Flag of Australia on 14 July 1995.
The Torres Strait Islander flag represents the indigenous peoples between Australia and Papua New Guinea. The pearls represent the region's pearling industry. Adopted in 1992 to represent Torres Strait Islander identity.
