The flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina shows a medium-blue field with a yellow right triangle ascending from the bottom edge to the top hoist corner. Alongside the triangle's hypotenuse runs a diagonal row of seven full five-pointed white stars and two half-stars at the top and bottom. The design was adopted on 4 February 1998 after the Dayton Peace Agreement ended the Bosnian War.
The triangle represents both the country's roughly triangular geography and its three constituent peoples — Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs. The blue and stars echo European Union symbolism, signalling Bosnia's aspirations toward European integration. The stars are deliberately truncated at the edges to imply an infinite series, symbolising continuity. Designed by Mladen Kolobaric, the flag was imposed by UN High Representative Carlos Westendorp when parliament could not agree.
