Flag of Côte d'Ivoire
Côte d'Ivoire's flag is a vertical tricolour of orange, white and green. Adopted on 3 December 1959 while the territory was still an autonomous republic within the French Community, it was retained unchanged after full independence on 7 August 1960. The layout takes after the French tricolour but swaps in colours tuned to the landscape of West Africa.
Orange represents the savannas of the north and the fertility of the land, white symbolises peace and national unity, and green stands for the forests of the south and hope for the future. The flag is often confused with Ireland's, which has the same three colours arranged as a mirror image with green at the hoist and orange at the fly.
