Flag of Cuba

Cuba's "Flag of the Lone Star" was designed by exile Miguel Teurbe Tolon and first raised in 1850 during Narciso Lopez's campaign to liberate Cuba from Spain. Upon independence on 20 May 1902, it became the nation's official symbol and has remained unchanged even after the 1959 Revolution.

The five horizontal stripes — three blue and two white — represent Cuba's original military districts under Spanish rule, with white symbolizing the purity of patriotic intentions. The red chevron at the hoist symbolizes strength and constancy. The white star within the red triangle represents freedom and independence.
