Flag of the Czech Republic

Czechoslovakia's flag began as a simple white-over-red reflecting Bohemian tradition, but when this too closely resembled Poland's flag, a blue triangle was added at the hoist in 1920. This modification incorporated Moravia's red, Bohemia's white, and blue representing justice, truth, and loyalty.

Upon Czechoslovakia's dissolution in 1992, the Czech Republic retained this tricolour while Slovakia adopted its own design. The flag was banned by Nazi Germany in 1939 but restored in 1945. The blue triangle's positioning creates a distinctive design that survives as a symbol of Czech national identity, combining the heraldic traditions of historical regions with modern democratic symbolism.
