Flag of Myanmar
Myanmar's flag was adopted on 21 October 2010 under the 2008 constitution, replacing the red socialist-era flag used from 1974 to 2010. It features three equal horizontal bands of yellow, green, and red, with a large white five-pointed star centred across all three stripes.
The yellow band stands for solidarity among Myanmar's ethnic groups, the green for peace and the country's lush environment, and the red for courage and decisiveness. The white star represents the union of the nation. The tricolour layout deliberately recalls the 1943-1945 flag used during Japanese occupation, reconnecting the state with an earlier chapter of national identity while setting aside the socialist symbolism of the preceding design.
