Construction sheet

Description

  • A green field bearing the shahada (Islamic creed) in white Arabic script with a horizontal sword below
  • Because it bears the shahada, the flag is never flown at half-mast
  • Construction: a green field bearing the Shahada (Islamic creed) in white Thuluth calligraphy above a white horizontal sword (pointing left)
  • The text and sword are centred
  • Because of the sacred inscription, the flag is never flown at half-mast and is manufactured with identical obverse and reverse

Trivia

  • The Shahada (Islamic declaration of faith) is written in white above the sword
  • The sword represents the strength and sovereignty of the nation
  • The green colour represents Islam; the flag has never been lowered to half-mast out of respect

Flag of Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia's flag features a green background with white Arabic text and a sword. The inscription displays the Shahada: "There is no deity but God; Muhammad is the Messenger of God." Green symbolizes Islam, believed to be the Prophet Muhammad's favourite colour.

The white sword represents justice and the defence of faith. In 1921, Abdulaziz Al-Saud added a sword to the traditional Shahada banner. The flag is manufactured identically on both sides to ensure the Arabic text reads correctly from either direction. Because it bears the Shahada, the flag is never flown at half-mast.
