The flag of the Republic of Hatay (1938–1939) featured a red field with a white horizontal stripe and a red star and crescent on the white band. Hatay was a short-lived state in what is now southern Turkey's Hatay Province, which joined Turkey in 1939 after a controversial referendum.
Hatay was a disputed territory between Turkey and Syria (1938–1939). Awarded to Turkey after French mandate authority allowed a plebiscite. Syria still claims Hatay as part of its territory.
