Flag of Turkey

Turkey's flag features a red field with a white crescent and five-pointed star. The design was essentially established in 1793 under Ottoman Sultan Selim III, and its precise measurements were standardised by law on 29 May 1936.

Red represents the blood of Turkish soldiers who defended their nation. The crescent has pre-Islamic origins in Asia Minor, used as a religious symbol by ancient civilisations and associated with Byzantium. Following the declaration of the Turkish Republic in 1923, the flag was retained from the Ottoman period, maintaining continuity between empire and republic.
