Flag of Honduras

The flag of Honduras is a horizontal triband of turquoise blue, white, and turquoise blue, with five blue five-pointed stars arranged in an X pattern on the white central band. The design was adopted on 7 March 1866 and descends from the banner of the United Provinces of Central America, the federal republic that united the region after independence from Spain in 1821.

The five stars represent the states of that former federation: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica, reflecting a long-held ideal of reunion. The blue bands stand for the Caribbean Sea, the Pacific Ocean, and the sky, while white signifies peace and the land lying between the two coasts. In January 2022, Congress formally changed the blue from navy to turquoise to echo the tone of Caribbean waters.
