The Qajar Dynasty (1789–1925) used a tricolour-style flag featuring a lion holding a sword with the rising sun behind it — the Shir-o-Khorshid.
The Qajar dynasty (1785–1925) ruled Persia and modernised Iran. The lion and sun represented Persian power and mythology. Preceded the Pahlavi dynasty.
