The Kingdom of Scotland's Royal Standard featured a red rampant lion on gold — one of the oldest heraldic designs in continuous use. The blue Saltire (St Andrew's Cross) was also used.
The Kingdom of Scotland used its own flag before the union with England. The lion rampant represents Scottish heraldry. United with England in 1707 to form Great Britain.
