Flag of Spain

Spain's flag, "La Rojigualda," consists of three horizontal stripes: red, yellow (twice the height), and red. The design originated from the naval ensign of 1785, chosen by Charles III from twelve options for easy recognition at sea. It became the sole national flag in 1843 under Isabella II.

The red and yellow colours were common elements on the banners of medieval Spanish kingdoms. The inclusion of the coat of arms features symbols from various kingdoms, creating a composite representation of Spanish unity. The flag's practical origin — meant for maritime distinction — evolved into a powerful symbol of national identity.
