Flag of Sweden

Sweden's flag features a yellow Nordic cross on a blue field, with the cross offset toward the hoist in the Scandinavian style. The colours as national symbols date to the High Middle Ages and appeared on the Three Crowns emblem since at least 1336.

Blue symbolizes loyalty and truth, while yellow represents prosperity and generosity. The first confirmed example of the yellow cross on blue dates to the mid-16th century. The flag was officially standardised on 22 June 1906. The Swedish Flag Act of 1982 codified the specific shades of blue and golden yellow currently used.
