The flag of the United Kingdom of Libya was identical to the later Kingdom of Libya flag — red, black, and green horizontal stripes with the Islamic crescent and star. Used from independence in 1951, it symbolised the unification of Libya's three historic provinces under King Idris al-Senussi.
Libya briefly united with Egypt and Syria in various Pan-Arab unions. The flags reflected Pan-Arab unity aspirations. Unions were short-lived due to political differences.
