Description
- The Great Seljuk Empire (1037–1194) was a Sunni Muslim Turco-Persian empire stretching from Central Asia to Anatolia
- Construction: a sky-blue field charged with the tamga of the Kınık tribe — a stylised bow drawn with an arrow on its string — from which the Seljuk dynasty claimed descent
- Note: no single canonical flag survives from the period; this depiction is a modern reconstruction from the Turkish "16 Great Turkic Empires" series, drawing on Seljuk coinage, tamgas, and seals
Trivia
- The Seljuks broke the Byzantine army at Manzikert in 1071, opening Anatolia to Turkic settlement
- The Kınık bow-and-arrow tamga was the clan mark of the Seljuk founders Tuğrul and Çağrı
- The empire fragmented into successor sultanates, including the Sultanate of Rum that preceded the Ottomans
