Description
- Hyderabad State (1724–1948) was the largest and wealthiest princely state of British India, ruled by the Asaf Jahi Nizams
- Construction: a yellow field bearing the Kulah Asifi — the dynastic cap-shaped shield — in a central white disc, with Qur'anic calligraphy above ("Al-'Aẓamatu li-Llāh" — "Majesty belongs to God") and the invocation "Yā 'Uthmān" below, flanked by two green horizontal stripes
- Annexed to India in 1948 by the Indian Army's Operation Polo after the last Nizam refused accession
Trivia
- The 7th Nizam, Osman Ali Khan, was at one point the world's richest person; his fortune came from Golconda diamonds and Hyderabadi taxes
- Capital Hyderabad was second only to Delhi in Mughal-era Indian urbanism
- The flag remained briefly in use for Hyderabad State within India until 1956 reorganisation
